About the show

Hamstrings and Heartstrings is two friends, Chris and Ellie, catching up and having some straight running talk. One of us is real competitive with our running and the other is pretty chill. We'll leave it as an exercise to the listener to decide who is who. The answer may not be the same for each episode!

We promise to mostly talk about running and running-related things but don't be surprised if some general nerdery sneaks in. And definitely expect talk about what we're eating. Afterall, Food is running related!

Episodes

  • 022: 40 Minutes

    September 13th, 2020  |  37 mins 10 secs

Now with 80% more running talk! Chris’s pup is running upto 4 miles now. No water yet, but we’re working on it. Ellie is loving the short run lifestyle. Also, airline announcement free-styling. And what distance would you be great at if you could be great at just one? Food time is running fast, cooking fast and eating slow.

  • 020: Core is a Muscle

    August 23rd, 2020  |  34 mins 18 secs

Okay... not quite sure what to make of this one. There is a some squatty potty talk... in great detail. Ellie mindbendingly describes core exercise. Chris got descriptively stung by a bee. We talk about putting vegetables in otherwise perfectly fine food.

    August 17th, 2020  |  29 mins 28 secs

Chris’s miles are up, Ellie’s miles are down. Way Down. And we’re both in pretty good spirits as we discuss Chris’s thoughts on social media, Strava comparison syndrome, and some Bad Asses that are going to crush the Adirondack High Peaks.

  • 018: Mo Bettah With Some Feta

    August 10th, 2020  |  39 mins 59 secs

We start with some follow-up because Chris wants to be understood. Ellie has a thing for Killian’s Tightie Whities. Ellie is enjoying her down week and Chris is enjoying his up week. Controversial opinions are shared about controversial podcasters and we’re eating Picky Oats and some sort of weird salad.

  • 017: We Should Probably Start Recording

    August 2nd, 2020  |  22 mins 22 secs

Much like if we were to run a race on a track, Chris goes around in circles while Ellie patiently waits at the finish line. What is a good ultrarunning movie? Why is it or is it not Barkley. Put this one in the vault folks. Also, Tofu and Radishes are spoken of highly.

  • 016: So Much More Than Zero

    July 21st, 2020  |  38 mins 49 secs

Another week, another Hamstrings and Heartstrings... just like always, right? This week got a few post-it notes, we run fast to avoid getting stung, we run fast to hit our workout goals. Ellie takes some time to talk right to the audience, like Chris isn't even there! Also, things are gonna be different from here on out. Well, once we wake up from our naps!

  • 015: We Can Do Hard Things

    July 11th, 2020  |  37 mins 32 secs

Okay... it’s been 4 weeks. Ellie is sorry for that. Chris isn’t quite sure how he feels about the whole thing. There’s a race this weekend. Neither of us are sure how we feel about that. How do we feel about races? Also, the Food Segment is kind of a mixed bag this week.

  • 014: My Own Private Entrance

    June 1st, 2020  |  43 mins 9 secs

This week we start with some more Disney follow-up. Ellie is moving! Then Ellie goes on a woodland adventure and Chris has his first 100 mile month since July 2018. We finish it up with Nachos and Ellie finds a new ice cream, which spurs on a Ben & Jerry's discussion.

    May 29th, 2020  |  37 mins 59 secs

We open with follow-up on Chris’s favorite Disney movies, Ellie’s hittin’ her times during the Photo Shoot, and Chris Visits The Muddy Sneaker Course. The main topic, what are race performances going to look like without the typical support? And what will really feel different when races open up again? And for food, we have cauliflower and beer.

  • 012: Really, Really Great

    May 22nd, 2020  |  34 mins 29 secs

Chris and Ellie are back! We recorded a little late this week since Ellie's booking agent booked her PR tour over our regular recording spot. But that's cool because it gave our running chat a little bit more time to marinate. (You should check her out on Ridge Runners Podcast) We chat about how running things are going well for us, give some supporter shout-outs, and then we talk about those little things about running that make us feel really, really great. And the food segment brings us a tale of home-baked pretzel bites and dark cocoa overload!

  • 011: Dipping a Burrito in Yogurt

    May 12th, 2020  |  45 mins 19 secs

Another Episode! And we’re discussing bad decisions. So it’s only fitting that we talk about Nicholas Cage, Fig Bars, Incorrect Shoes, and putting garlic in yogurt. Lots of links in this episode, check out the show notes to go deeper!

    May 5th, 2020  |  39 mins 11 secs

  • 009: Mental Eating

    April 23rd, 2020  |  34 mins 32 secs

Is this another Chris episode? Ellie asks Chris about a race he felt he actually trained for, and how that training went. Chris travels in the way back machine to dig up Muddy Sneaker 2015 Ellie steals (saves?) the show with yet another gourmet food segment.

  • 008: Feelings Are Real

    April 14th, 2020  |  36 mins 40 secs

This week is... just another week. BTW, Ellie discovered casual short runs. So we chat about those. And in the middle of just chatting, Ellie asks Chris about how he got started running. Who knew this episode would be his origin story? And for the main course, we talk about feeling okay feeling how you feel. Also, More Brownies.

  • 007: Almost Normal

    April 7th, 2020  |  40 mins 28 secs
